Quest Web Parts for SharePoint
Navigation Tools
Easy navigation around an application is critical to a good user
experience. Simple one or two-click navigation to any part
of the system, from any part of the system, is the expectation
in a core application.
The Quest Web Parts include a number of very user-friendly
components to help users get around:
-
qCascadingMenu
The Quest Cascading Menu provides a drop-down & cascading
interface to allow the user to glide around the options and
then and click to link to their chosen topic. Very
easy to use. Equally as easy to configure, amounting
to the editing of a simple and intuitive SharePoint list.
Menu items can be text or graphics or both. Texts can
be "styled". Links can deliver content to the current
or a new browser.
As with the qListView, which can "roll-up" many lists, so
the qCascadingMenu
web part is able to form a menu from several menu lists,
each independently managed. This enables restricted
menus, such as Administrator menus to be included as part of
the web part configuration, but because most users will not
be able to access the Administrator's menu list, then
neither will they be able to see the restricted part of the
menu.

-
qPanelMenu
The Quest Panel Menu, provides the same cascading behaviour
as the qCascadingMenu
but its design is suited for positioning down a side bar.
Configuring the qPanelMenu
is very similar to the
qCascadingMenu. Together, the
qCascadingMenu
and the qPanelMenu
form the classic top- and side-bar navigation facility found
on many web pages.

-
qPageRedirector.
The Quest Page Redirector web part takes the user to a web
page depending on their identity. Configuration is via
a SharePoint list in which a user's identity is mapped to a
destination URL. This list is then referenced by the
qPageRedirector web part which
is placed on a "trigger" page, launched from an Anchor or
button, or via JavaScript. The
qPageRedirector is not
usually visible to the user. Its impact is a
behavioural change only. Excellent for providing a
common user interface for users with different access
rights, ensuring each user type is only able to navigate to
permitted pages.
